Provide Mouth Care
This is an awkward skill. Awkward for you – and awkward for the patient. If the patient can do their own mouth care, they will. You will only do mouth care on patients that cannot do it themselves. But if they are in bed, safety is an issue. And infection control is important because saliva is a body fluid, so we will need to wear gloves. This skill isn’t HARD (you’ve been brushing your own teeth for years!) but it may be a bit challenging to remember all the steps when you are just starting out. Remember, practice is your friend! So, how do we know which patients require mouth care? Read the care plan!
See that little red button above the video? That is the care plan for the state exam. Click on it. Go ahead, I’ll wait. You are graded on reading and following the care plan – it counts big! This care plan tells us to perform mouth care on a patient in bed. Always read and follow the care plan!
This video shows this skill demonstrated according to the specific testing care plan used by Prometric for the exam.
Why stop at just a video? I have much more to show you!
