Make an Occupied Bed
Clean rolls toward me…dirty rolls away. This is how we make an occupied bed! Safety is important, so make sure the patient is ALWAYS in the middle of the bed, even when lying on their side. Of course, if the patient can get out of bed, make the bed when they are out of it! It’s much easier and quicker. But some patients will need clean sheets even when they can’t get up, so learning how to do this safely is an essential patient care skill. So, how do we know which patients require an OCCUPIED bed change? Read the care plan!
See that little red button above the video? That is the care plan for the state exam. Click on it. Go ahead, I’ll wait. You are graded on reading and following the care plan – it counts big! This care plan only instructs us to change the top sheet, bottom sheet and pillowcase for the exam. It also tells us that a draw sheet, underpad and blanket are not required. Always read and follow the care plan!
This video shows this skill demonstrated according to the specific testing care plan used by Prometric for the exam.
Why stop at just a video? I have much more to show you!
