Provide Hand and Nail Care
Whatever we wash, we rinse. Whatever we rise, we dry. Simple. Hand and nail care involves washing the hand, cleaning under the nails and filing any rough edges before applying lotion. Lotion must be warmed before applying and the excess wiped off for safety. Not a hard skill, but make sure you follow all the washing rules and basin cleaning rules. These are covered in the online course. Not all patients will need hand and nail care – some will wash their own hands as needed. So, how do we know who will require hand and nail care? Simple! Read the care plan!
See that little red button above the video? That is the care plan for the state exam. Click on it. Go ahead, I’ll wait. You are graded on reading and following the care plan – it counts big! This care plan only instructs us to wash ONE hand for the exam – you get to choose which one. But in a clinical setting, if a care plan says one hand, it will tell you which one because the other one has a REASON we aren’t washing it! Always read and follow the care plan!
This video shows this skill demonstrated according to the specific testing care plan used by Prometric for the exam.
Why stop at just a video? I have much more to show you!
