Provide Foot Care to One Foot
You look at your feet periodically – in the shower, in the pool, on the couch. You probably have good sensation in your feet, too – you would know if there was an injury or sore there. But some of your patients aren’t flexible enough to see the bottom of their feet anymore. And some have lost sensation in their feet that would affect whether they felt a sore or wound.
Foot care isn’t about washing the feet, it’s really about having an excuse to be close enough to LOOK at the feet. But you will only do foot care on those that need it. Imagine how awkward it would be if a random stranger wanted to inspect your feet when you are certainly able to do it yourself! The point is….we don’t do all skills on all patients because no two PATIENTS are the same. So, how do we know what we are supposed to do? Read the care plan!
See that little red button above the video? That is the care plan for the state exam. Click on it. Go ahead, I’ll wait. You are graded on reading and following the care plan – it counts big! This care plan only instructs us to wash ONE foot. Maybe the other one has a cast or an incision or a dressing or has even been amputated. Since you – as a CNA – can’t decide what the patient needs, your job is to read and follow the care plan. So, this care plan is very specific, telling us to only wash one foot – following it will count big for the exam. Always read and follow the care plan!
This video shows this skill demonstrated according to the specific testing care plan used by Prometric for the exam.
Why stop at just a video? I have much more to show you!
The video is just the beginning
Watching the video above will give you a general idea of how the skills should be done…but it won’t give you all the background info that you will need to pass the test. Lucky for you…we have a program for that! It’s all online, comprehensive and FUN!
