Provide a Partial Bedbath and Backrub
Every partial bedbath will be different, based on the patient’s needs. Betty is unresponsive – she will need EVERYTHING washed. Bob, a recent amputee, can wash his face and body, but isn’t able to reach his back, so he will need help with that. Mitch has difficulty wringing out the washcloth because of severe arthritis but can still wash his face and chest. Annie has dementia and her needs vary day by day. And Shirley, who was just in an awful car accident, needs just her face, neck, chest, back and one arm/hand washed. The other arm has an incision and the nurse doesn’t want the dressing to get wet. The point is….no two bedbaths will be the same, because no two PATIENTS are the same. So, how do we know what we are supposed to do? Read the care plan!
See that little red button above the video? That is the care plan for the state exam. Click on it. Go ahead, I’ll wait. You are graded on reading and following the care plan – it counts big! This care plan only instructs us to wash the face, neck, chest, abdomen, back and only one arm and hand. This patient doesn’t need peri care (maybe they can do that themselves) or their legs and feet washed (maybe it was just done). Since you – as a CNA – can’t decide what the patient needs, your job is to read and follow the care plan. So, this care plan is very specific and following it will count big for the exam. Always read and follow the care plan!
This video shows this skill demonstrated according to the specific testing care plan used by Prometric for the exam.
Why stop at just a video? I have much more to show you!
