North Dakota requires 75 hours of CNA training in a state approved program, including 16 hours of clinical experiences.

Testing

North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) performs CNA testing in North Dakota. Qualifications for testing include:

  1.  If you are currently employed by a nursing facility, you must complete a state-approved Certified Nurse Aide training program within four months of employment.
  2. If you are currently employed by a home health agency, you must complete home health aide training under the direction of a qualified instructor.
  3. If you are currently employed by a health care facility or another setting that is not a nursing facility or a home health agency,  you must successfully complete a nurse aide training program under the direction of a qualified instructor.

Note: For those employed by home health agencies or  health care facilities or another setting that is not a nursing facility or a home health agency, there will be an applicable $25 non-refundable fee.

Renewal

CNAs in North Dakota are required to renew their CNA certification every 2 years.

Renewal may not be charged a fee.

The requirements for renewal are:

  1. Candidate must have performed at least 8 hours of nursing or nursing-related services within a continuous 24-month period.
