Provide Peri Care to an Incontinent Patient

Peri care. Personal care. Perineal care. Whatever you call it, it is a very personal task. Patients will keep themselves clean whenever possible, but some patients are too weak or ill to take care of this themselves, and that’s where WE come in. If the patient needs peri care, you must provide privacy, ensure comfort, use the washing rules and wipe the right way in order to pass this skill. Not all patients will NEED peri care, but when they do, you must know the right way to wash to avoid contamination. So, how do we know what we are supposed to do? Read the care plan!

See that little red button above the video? That is the care plan for the state exam. Click on it. Go ahead, I’ll wait. You are graded on reading and following the care plan – it counts big! This care plan tells us that this patient needs perineal care and the pad under the resident is wet (so it must be changed). The gown and bedding are dry, so we don’t need to change them. Every situation is different and you are required to follow the care plan for ALL situations. Always read and follow the care plan!

This video shows this skill demonstrated according to the specific testing care plan used by Prometric for the exam.

Thank God I found this course before I tested! There was so much I didn't know about that I probably would have failed if it weren't for this course. If you want to pass your CNA exam, take this course!
